Boondockers
These boots can’t talk, but if they could they’d tell sea stories that would make the Pope blush. These boots were issued to me on the 3rd day of Basic Training in 2008. They have been resoled twice, and I’ve replaced the laces at least a dozen times. These boots were with me when I moved to Hawaii. They were with me the first time I fell in love, as well as the last time. They have been from islands in the Pacific to icebergs in the North Atlantic. They’ve flown, sailed, steamed and sped in almost every kind of boat and plane the Coast Guard has. They have been stomped on, frozen, soaked, burned, and ripped, but always repaired. And today is my last day of wearing them with a uniform. The last time pulling the laces tight. And at the end of today, it'll be my last time taking them off. It’s weird to get so attached to something, even if its just an old pair of worn out boots.
